Bancontact: the most usedpayment method in Belgium
With Bancontact Belgian consumers can pay with their own bank card or Bancontact app. This is the most used online payment method in Belgium. Payments are 100% guaranteed and cannot be unilaterally reversed.
Bancontact is the market leader in Belgium when comes to electronic payments. Bancontact ensures that the amount due is transferred from the account of the payer to that of the payee. For a cardholder, this takes place via the bank that issued the card, for a webshop via the supplier of the online payment method.
How does Bancontact work?
The consumer places an order on a webshop and chooses to pay with Bancontact/Mister Cash. The payment order is prepared and the consumer authorizes payment by entering the card details and a PIN. The amount is deducted from the consumer’s current account and the webshop is informed that the order has been paid. Consumers can also make mobile payments with the Bancontact-app. This uses a QR that automatically appears on the screen.
